New bike, I wanted to get some miles in. And I really had doubts about my ability to last more than a few laps. So I passed on the race, but it was with some regrets.
I was talking with a teammate, and it sound like I may have made the right decision. Over half the field did not finish.
So I have to look at the race calender and see what I can make. There is a race in Troy on the 21st that I can make.
Once thing that has been missing from my training is the lack of hills (good enough of a reason to pass on Sunday’s race!). I have got to find hills, despite the fact that is seems like I have always persistent headwind in this wide open farmland around New Albany.
I decided to ride closer to Hoover Dam yesterday, and found them! I went to mapmyride.com and was able to map some rides with some decent climbs. Surprisingly, I felt I handled the hills better than I expected. I have to get used to descents again. The new bike feels a little squirelly.
I went out for a easy 30 minute ride with David last night, and we I got back, I felt I needed to get my HR up. So I did a sprint up 3rd Ave to Grandview Heights. I need to do that every night.
My legs are tired, but what a feeling! I haven’t felt this in years!
