It should have been a great day. Morning clouds gave way to sunny skies, mild temps (comparatively speaking, only in the low 80’s), low humidity, although windy from the north. With the lower temps and the north wind, it actually felt fall like!
I just couldn’t get into the ride. Legs felt sluggish, despite the easy and short ride the day before. I was feeling really tired. I started out feeling good, but the headwind going out sapped me, and was never really able to use the tailwind to my advantage.
Overtraining? I really don’t think so, but then, I have to remember I’m older.
I know part of the problem. I’ve been on call since last Friday, and regardless of the week I’m having, I seem to have a problems sleeping during my on call weeks. Chances of the Blackberry going off during the evening are very remote, but for me there is the feeling that if it were to go off at midnight, I would never go back to sleep. Back in the days when those midnight pagers were not uncommon, that would happen.
We did get to bed before 9PM last night. I actually got almost 8 hours of sleep, which is unheard of even during a normal week. I’m feeling much more rested this morning.
I also need to get on a better diet. I tend to eat better in the morning, then have a very light lunch.
It’s going to be a beautiful day. I certainly feel more motivated this morning.
In fact, it’s going to be a beautiful weekend, with the forecast of 90s returning next week. I’m still not going to rule out racing on Sunday
