We finally got some much needed rain. I emptied 4 inches from the gauge this morning, and we still have a good chance of getting more today. Tomorrow we should start getting some sun, but it will be in the 90’s and very humid. I did hear one forecaster today saying we may be wearing jackets on Labor Day weekend. Accuweather, Intellicast and Weather Channel are all indicating a change to cooler weather late next week. Yes!
Considering I did not get out yesterday, and it so frigging miserable, in addition to the threat of rain today, I decided to take some PTO, and hit the drop in at Easton. My skates were sharpened. All I had to do was get my gear together.
This was my first time in skates since early March. I probably should have gone to a public skate before I put on the hockey gear. That was my biggest obstacle today, but, it could have been worse. And I always have problems with newly sharpened skates.
With the weight loss, it did feel better out there. But….it was also very tiring. Skating uses different muscles, but the big difference is all of that goalie gear! Overall, I felt I did really well considering that I spent most of the time getting a feel for the ice. No positioning. I was basically flopping around like a flounder. But in a way, that may have been good. My five hole.. still a problem. But I made some really good saves as well. I was espicially pleased considering I was facing shots from hot shot high school kids. I tried to apologize for my play before we started, making sure as many people as possible new it had been months. And everyone was really supportive.
It was fun, I do see it as a winter alternative.
I do NOT see myself getting back into league play.
