What can I say. I went into last nights game, prepared for the worst, hoping for the best.
Well, it was rather ugly, a 11-2 loss. Ouch!
Credit to the team. As a new team, we can move the puck, meaning the entire game was not played in my defensive zone. Our defense… not much to say except it is typical of a new team, meaning non-existent or way out of position. Too many goals were given up on breakaways, or defense not being in position. I could make some key saves, only to see the puck go in after a rebound. And don’t forget the screens. I had more screens than a HUD project.
We do have only guy who can go coast to coast, but had problems finding the net against a goalie that really wasn’t that good. He didn’t see that many shots, and in my defense, I made better saves. There were times when he was out to the blue line, and we still couldn’t get the biscuit in.
As for my game, there were some positives. I did make some key saves. Physically, I held up very well. I kept my cool, which I needed to get in check more than anything. And I have to say, overall, despite the pounding we took, the team was really supportive. Hell, it was our first game together.
But then again, I was disappointed. I had falsely believed I would play better. I do feel I has played well at drop in and stick n puck, but there I had no defense screening me. And I have to say that was the big factor in the loss last night. Also, I foundy myself not playing out as far last night. Positioning always seems to be a problem at the North rink. I also wasnt showing the same patience I had been playing with recently. I was going down way to quick. Basically, I was doing the things I was trying to avoid.
It was not my intentions to buy any new gear, besides new pants that I really needed. But this gear I’ve got… has some major league funk coming from it.
We do have some cooler weather on the way. Sounds like a nice week coming up so hopefully I can get in some productive miles. This weekend was pretty much of a washout. I did get in a ride between showers on Saturday. Yesterday truly was a washout. I should have put the bike on the rollers, but I got invoved with rebuilding my laptop.
