First off, what’s with the weather? Yesterday, we set an all time record for October with a high of 91. One forecast I heard said the high today will be 94! Although my cycling season has been shorter than usual due to my late start, we’ve had such a hot summer it’s hard to get motivated to get on the road.
I was not able to get out for a ride Saturday, although I did try. With guests coming in from out of town, I tried to get an early start, but things happened and it wasn’t possible. By the time I could get out, it was too late since I had to get the yard mowed. Just did get it done before our guests arrived.
We went to the Columbus Zoo on Saturday afternoon. Too bad it was so warm, because we really enjoyed it.
I thought about riding on Sunday morning, but at the same time, I felt I needed some ice time. I woke up at 8:30, saw that it was pushing 80, so I decided to pack my gear and head to the Icehouse for Stick N Puck. I didn’t have the quality shooters I’ve been used to seeing, but I still felt I played well without getting too tired. I had my game at 5:30 to think about.
As for that game.. we, it was bad. We lost 9-2 to a team that had been floundering in the basement for not sessions, but years. They really made us look bad.
I’m not saying I was on top of my game; I did let in a couple of softies. I have to admit that I got really tired, and I don’t think it was due to the fact that I had played earlier in the day. I think it was for the effort I was putting out, with all of the shots I faced. I did make some key saves, the better ones coming late in the game.
Sorry, but I am at the point where I have to say my defense SUCKS! What defense? They were absent last night, once again. In the second period, I was making a very strong stand. After the 3rd or 4th rebound, the puck slipped behind me. Of course, my D was not there. But the other team had guys on both sides of the net to tap it in. The ref.. gotta appreciate him. He said “You might be able to get the 3rd or 4th rebound, but you can only do so much if you don’t have your D there to help you” This was said in a tone that could be heard by everyone. I felt like thanking him so saying what I didn’t have the balls to say to my own team.
It was fun, but it was also frustrating. I really don’t think I’m as bad of a goalie as the scoreboard has been indicating. I do play very well in SNP and DI, albeit its not a real game.
