It was a nice weekend weather wise. The unseasonable warmth continued. Unfortunately, I did have to work OT on Saturday. I got out just in time to run home and get my gear and make a drop in. Would have been nice to get the bike out, and I really could have. I just didnt want to fight the wind.
Two goalies, quality shooters at drop in. I was pleased with the way I played. I have got to get a dangler for my mask. I took a shot in warmups that almost had my mask flying off. It was on my chin. another inch, maybe less, it would have been on the throat. I know playing without a dangler is stupid. There would be no excuse except stupdity if I take one to the throat.
Sunday morning was beautiful, and once again, I should have gotten out for a ride, but there was a ton of yard work to do. And an early game cut the day short. But better early than late, like next week’s game will be.
Getting ready for the game, the prevailing commments heard in the locker room was ” we can..”, “we will…” or “we should win this game. Such optimism from people who are not trying to defend the game behind crappy defense. Yeah, call me bitter. While I am having fun, I have the right to be bitter. Because nothing has changed.
While last night may not have been my best game, its far from my worst. In fact, overall, it was probably the best game I have had this session.
We lost 4-3 to the team next to last in the league standings. Right ahead of Motion!
I feel I really should have had the first goal. It was on a breakaway, but I was not playing the angle, and went down way to early.
As for the other three, there wasnt much I could do. Screens from my guys, and from the other team because my team would not clear them out. Something I had to end up doing. I spent a lot of time making some not so gentles pushes trying to keep the crease area clear.
In my defense, I will have to say I did make some key saves. On breakways, in traffic. I was getting out and playing the puck more.
On the other hand, we had two 5 on 3’s. And we still couldnt get the puck in the net, and it was in fact a struggle to get the puck out of our defensive zone. One reason is probably due to the fact there was no line changes. We had guys on the ice who had been out there way too long
I dont think I have any reason to beat myself up over this loss. I kept us in the game. I made the key saves when it mattered. If the team doesnt realize that, it’s their problem, not mine.
Another mystery. We were down 4-3. Why did they wait until there were only 25 seconds to pull me out of the game. I was ready with 1:00 minute left. All I wanted was the word.
Sounds like it will be a wet and cooler week this week. I have to make a point to get on the trainer.
