….it was an ugly win, in fact a really ugly win (6-5), but I’ll take it.
We went into last night’s game 3-1-1 (7 pts, 21 GF, 18 GA). Our opponent’s record was 5-0 (10 pts, 18 GF, 8 GA). I expected it to be an evenly matched game, and it really was. Actually, we controlled the game for the most past. unfortunately, things got really chippy at the end, and penalties were being handed out like crazy.
I really sucked the first period. Big time. The first goal I gave up, there really wasn’t much I could have done. It was on a wraparound attempt, and I actually made the first save with my skate. But I had no ideal where the puck went. All I know is one of their guys found it and made the goal. The second goal I gave up was so stupid. A floater from the blue right. The third, a weird deflection of my stick. Something Ive struggled with and have been working on correcting, but it sure didn’t show. I lost my head, got frustrated and started beating up myself and my stick, which I almost broke. Fortunately, it near the end of the 1st period, and we were up 4-3.
Between periods I was able to get my head back into the game, with the help and support of my team.
I actually played very well the remainder of the game. I made some key saves down the stretch, especially late in the 3rd when we were on penalty kills (we had too many of those). The team played a great game. The win and the effort we made helped my get the first period behind me, and I’m really appreciative to the guys on the team for helping me get back in to the game, and saving my ass!
We are now 4-1-1, in third place. Hard to believe the season is half way over with
