First, the ongoing question. Is it still hip to have shorts turned-up at the bottom?
No, it is totally out and a sign that the shorts don’t fit well or the athlete is wearing the wrong size or suffers from muscular atrophy.
It will be a few weeks before my team kit arrives. And for that, I had no option as to brand, Champ Systems. That is the same brand as my kit with Buckeye. Jersey is great, but the shorts I had last year sucked. The chamois was uncomfortable. And call my picky, but the shorts were too shorts. I like mine two to three inches above the knee. Champ’s seem to be closer to 4 inches, and kept riding up.
I have a total of two pairs of shorts. The Champ’s from last season, and a pair of Castelli Wicked’s. I am searching for the elusive, total, complete short for training and racing. The WIcker’s have a perfect fit. But the pad is not perfect. Still some binding and chaffing. (Maybe it’s my big ass).
I’ve been amazed at the prices quality shorts are fetching now. While I would prefer to own a pair of Assos shorts, I’m not going to drop over 200 bucks.
I’ve decided to go with the Campy shorts, sight unseen. I’m going by the description, name, in relation to price ($129.00).
Whatever happened to the old fashioned chamois? I know the new synthetics are better overall, but why can’t they make them larger.
And BTW, I will order white, if anyone cares. I don’t intend to race in the rain.. and black, well, it’s boring.
